April 18, 1998 DAN BOORSE WINS BADGER/NAMARS OPENER By LES MESZAROS QUINCY, MI – Saturday night Dan Boorse of Whitefish Bay, WI christened the 1998 NAMARS Auto Value and Badger midget seasons by winning the 20-lap feature at the Butler Battlegrounds Speedway in Quincy, MI.  This was Boorse's first ever NAMARS win. Boorse managed to beat a huge field of 54 midgets on opening night before a full grandstands and 100 race cars in the pits.       Boorse started on the front row and immediately shot into the lead ahead of Ricky Shelton.   Over the first 9 laps Shelton did his best to try to get by Boorse on the inside and pulled up along side Boorse several times but Boorse would always battle right back and hold Shelton.  On lap 9 Shelton was involved in a caution and pitted out of the race.       On the restart Boyd Calvert was now second but managed to hold that position for only 3 laps before Kevin Olson charged past to take second. Olson followed Boorse every where the last 8 laps but was unable to challenge for the lead.  Boorse led Olson, Boyd Calvert, Scott Hatton and Kevin Koch to the checkered flag.      Setting fast time and winning $100 from Painter Motorsports Group was Ricky Shelton.  Heat race victories went to Bill Berg, Dan Boorse, Scott Hatton, Kevin Olson and Kevin Doty.  Semi feature wins went to Marty Davis and Randy Koch. NAMARS NOTES…Opening night anxiousness caused the entire show to run late but all of the officials, drivers, pit crews and fans hung in there and all of the events were completed…Nokie Fornoro flipped coming off turn two and down the backstretch off the speedway on the first lap of the first heat. The front end of the car was severely damaged ending Nokie's night. Fortunately all Nokie had to show for it was a sore thumb…Six new Rally Trucks were on hand and gave a spirited exhibition race with Denny Donaldson, track owner, finishing second.
