Too many times in his midget racing career, Davis has had terrible luck at Hales Corners. Tonight, his fortune turned as he held off the final charge of current BMARA points leader, Dan Boorse, Whitefish Bay, WI. For Davis, the win marked the second time that he has visited victory lane in BMARA competition this season. "I'm so happy about this win, we've wrecked so much stuff here in the past." Davis said. On lap 26, Boorse made his only serious challenge to Davis, when his #88 Elcho / Weiland Racing Products / Gaerte powered Stealth got a tremendous bite coming off of turn two and raced Davis side by side down the back stretch. Going into turn three Boorse tried to gain inside position on Davis, but Davis held his line and slammed the door. "Oh yeah, I knew exactly who was there." Davis explained, "And I was trying so hard those last couple of laps not to lose the race. Dan's a great race car driver and I want to give him credit for keeping it clean." Boorse commented, "I got a pretty good run there, but I just couldn't get the nose in there enough where it might have made him move out or back off. For sure, the thing I didn't want to do is get in a tangle and take out half of the field." Both drivers agree, At Hales Corners, there is no substitute for being in the lead. "I tried so hard to jump him off the start." Davis said of fellow front row starter Dean Erfurth, Oregon, WI, "and I messed up as we took the green, but as we went into three and four, Dean went high. I thought the track had something down low so I went for the bottom." The bottom, as it turned out, would be the line that the #76 / Multi-Products Company / Pioneer Restaurant / Benedict Landscaping sponsored Brayton powered chassis that Davis designed himself, would hold all the way to victory lane. Boorse said, "The way to win at this place is to get out front as soon as you can. I've got to give Marty credit, he made the bold move right away." Randy Koch, Oregon, WI rocketed the Harlan Kittleson #2 Brayton powered Beast out of his third row starting position into third place with an aggressive inside move on Steve Knepper, Belleville, IL, after a lap 20 caution which was brought out Australian Adam Clarke's stalled mount in turn two. Knepper was in the seat of the Wilke / PAK #11 - Gaerte / Ellis. Bill Berg, Arlington, WI, brought the Fillner #3 - Gaerte / Buzzard home in fifth. In other action during the evening, Jerry Coons, Jr., Tucson, Arizona, set a new 15 lap B-feature track record for Hales Corners and 1997 BMARA points champion, Kevin Olson, Rockford, IL, set quick time. The Badger Midget Auto Racing Association will be back in action this Sunday night for the Salute to Sun Prairie 25 at Angell Park Speedway, Sun Prairie, WI.
