Boorse: Something Borrowed / Nothing New

The win marks the sixth time this season that Boorse has visited victory lane.

During hot laps, Boorse's Gaerte SB2 engine lost power with an internal problem that ended the night for his family owned red #88. Huston offered the Brayton / Beast which had been driven by New Zealand's Bryce Collings for the entire season. The seat was left vacant when Collings unexpectedly left the United States to return to New Zealand. The first laps Boorse (Whitefish Bay, WI) turned in Huston's #15 were in qualifications.

Boorse started inside the third row and passed Chris Maxson (McHenry, IL) for the lead on a lap-14 re-start after a red flag was thrown for the flipped car of Scott Hatton (Roscoe, IL). Hatton, debuting a new Stealth chassis for the Wilke PAK, held a straightaway lead on the field before he jumped the wheel of John Jones entering turn three. Boorse and Maxson picked up a spirited battle over the next five laps, trading the lead several times before a lap-21 yellow flag for the spun car of Roger Miller.

"Chris is a good competitor," Boorse said from victory lane, "and we weren't giving each other much room, but we gave each other just enough."

Boorse also commented on the Dwight Huston owned car "The car felt real square to me and it was doing everything that I thought it should do, it was a real good car. We basically ran it just the way they gave it to us."

Boorse was momentarily passed by Billy Berg (Arlington, WI) on the re-start, but Berg was unable to maintain his momentum through turns one and two.

"Those two were running on the top so I figured I had the bottom all to myself, so I took it, and I lead down the front stretch." Berg elaborated. "But I couldn't run up high where they were running because my car was a little bit too tight, so I had to run through one and two on the bottom, and as the race had gone one it got a bit worn out down there. I think if the bottom had stuck a little better in one and two we could have given them a pretty good run."

Marty Davis (Racine, WI) slowed the next lap bringing out another caution. Randy Koch (Monona, WI) moved by Berg on the re-start.

The un-official top five at the checkered was Boorse, Koch, Berg, Kevin Olson, and Maxson.

Jerry Coons, Jr. (Tucson, AZ) who set fast time, won the 12 lap special Vogler Memorial Race, trophy dash and heat race and looked to be well on his way to a clean sweep of the evening's events, broke a valve coming off of turn four on the final lap of his heat race which forced him to scratch the McNultey #4 Esslinger / Outhouse from the night's main event.

The Badger Midget Auto Racing Association will run again this Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie.
