FIKE NABS BADGER PECATONICA RACE
PECATONICA, IL, July 13---Aaron Fike scored an exciting late race win, capturing the 20-lap Badger Midget Series Feature, Saturday Night at the Pecatonica Motor Speedway. The event, held in front of a large crowd, was the first midget auto race held at the facility since, in nearly fifteen years.
Chad DeSelle jumped into the lead at the start, on the big half-mile track, while Fike began working through the field from his tenth place starting position. Fike moved into fifth on the fourth lap, while DeSelle held a comfortable lead over Jeff Flesher. DeSelle began lapping the tail of the field on the eighth circuit and within the next two laps Fike moved from
fifth to third place.
At the midway point DeSelle held a 2.6 second lead over Flesher, and Fike. Fike took over the runner-up position on the fourteenth lap, with the leaders continuning to run through slower lapped traffic. Brian Claas,hit the first turn wall, on the 15th lap, flipping several times, Rick Imhoff also flipped trying to avoid Claas. DeSelle with a comfortable lead, failed
to negoiate a partially blocked track upon entering the first turn area, and clipped Claas's car, causing him to flip. All three drivers escaped injury.
On the restart Fike pulled away from the field while a great five car battle was waged for second. On the white lap, with Fike increasing his lead two cars in the top five retired with separte mechanical problems, Jeff Flesher(second), and Davey Ray(fifth),shuffling the front pack. Fike finished 3.13 seconds ahead of Mike Hess, Scott Hatton, Quinn McCabe, and
Aaron Fiscus.For Fike who drove the Les & Greg Nelson/Tim Sullivan/Wisco Racing/Stealth-Mopar #95, it was his fourth Badger win of the season.
Fike earlier in the night set new one , and four lap track records setting fast time, and winning the trophy dash. Rsay set a new eight lap standard, with his heat race win, and Hess recorded a 10-lap record by winning the semi-feature.
