COONS TOPS SHOWDOWN AT THE PRAIRIE

Sun Prairie, Wis, July 27---Jerry Coons Jr. picked up a last minute ride, and made the most of it Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The Tucson, Az driver captured the 50-lap Coca-Cola Showdown at the 'Prairie Badger Midget Series feature. Coons drove the Karl Warnke Stealth-Fontana to his fifth career victory at the track.
Chad DeSelle jumped into the lead, at the start closely followed by Coons, and Dan Boorse. DeSelle, and Coons pulled away from the field. DeSelle began lapping the tail of the field on the tenth circuit. one lap later a caution
appeared for a spun car. On the restart DeSelle paced the field. On the 13th lap Tracy Hines hit the frontstretch wall, flipping several times. Hines was
uninjured.
DeSelle paced the final 12 laps, followed by Coons, Boorse, Brandon Waelti, and Davey Ray, before a mandatory yellow appeared with the field stopping for a ten minute break, before the second twenty five lap segment. DeSelle drew number three forcing him to restart the second half in third place.
Coons led the field down for the start, and began pulling away from a tightly bunched pack of cars. Ray moved into second on the 32nd lap. Coons held a comfortable two second advantage over ray for the remainder of the event. Coons finished 1.47 seconds ahead of Ray. Aaron Fike, Waelti, and Boorse completed the top five.
Ray holds a 180 point lead over Boorse heading into next Sunday's event at
the facility.
