Kuhn increases Badger point lead with victory

Sun Prairie,Wis., May 28 - Series points leader Brad Kuhn increased his lead by capturing the MGD Memorial 50-lap Badger Midget Series feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. Kuhn became the first driver since Aaron Fike in 2002 to win three straight series feature events.
Polesitter Dean Erfurth jumped into the lead at the start, while Kuhn who earlier won the Trophy Dash and B Feature began moving up from outside row three, before the events first caution on lap three for two stopped cars on the race surface. Erfurth again set the pace on the restart, while defending series champion Scott Hatton quickly moved in on Erfurth. Hatton took the lead from Erfurth on the 12th lap, with Kuhn running a close third place. 
At the halfway point Hatton held a one-second advantage over Erfurth, Kuhn, Brandon Waelti and Mike Hess. The event was stopped on the 32nd circuit when a fire erupted in Randy Koch's car. Two laps later Hatton jumped the cushion while leading sending his car flipping into the catch fence, Hatton escaped injury.
Kuhn assumed the lead for the first time on the restart, each lap Kuhn began increasing his lead and went unchallenged for the remainder of the event. Kuhn driving the Kuhn Motorsports Stealth/Mopar#74 finished 2.64 seconds ahead of the Erfurth, the 1990 series champion. Waelti, Chad DeSelle and Justin Allgaier completed the top five.
Kuhn now holds a 163 point lead over Waelti heading into the Badger/POWRi Midget Series co-sanctioned weekend on June 3-4. On Saturday June 3 both series will compete at The Raceway at Powercom Park (Beaver Dam, Wis.), before the traditional Sunday Night June 4 event at Angell Park Speedway.
