Coons clean sweeps 'Prairie

Sun Prairie, Wis., June 11- Jerry Coons Jr. completed a clean sweep in the Badger Midget Series program Sunday Night at Angell Park, winning the 25-lap feature. Coons driving the Karl Warnke owned Stealth-Fontana also topped the 33-car field in qualifying and won the trophy dash and his heat race. It was the first clean sweep at the track since Kevin Doty turned the feat in the 1995 Pepsi Midget Nationals on Sept. 3, 1995.
As the field came down for the initial start, a seven car accident occurred on the front stretch, sidelining two cars, and sending series points leader Brad Kuhn to the tail of the field on the restart. Aaron Fiscus took the lead once underway while Coons charged into fifth place by the completion of the second lap, two laps later Coons split the third and fourth place running cars entering turn three to take over third place.
Coons moved into second on the ninth lap and trailed Fiscus by four car lengths, when the caution was displayed on lap 12 for a slowing car on the track. On the restart Coons challenged Fiscus for the lead, while Kuhn moved into the top five. Coons moved into the lead on the 16th lap passing Fiscus exiting turn two. Two laps later the events fifth caution appeared bunching up the field. 
With Fiscus running the bottom groove and Coons on a narrow cushion the pair waged a torrid battle for the lead on the restart. Fiscus pulled even on the 20th lap and was the official race leader on lap 21, before Coons again moved ahead closely followed by Kuhn. Coons held a guarded lead the final three laps finishing one-car length ahead of Fiscus at the finish. Waelti nipped Kuhn for third place at the finish, with Chad DeSelle completing the top five. Kuhn holds a 40 point margin over Waelti heading into the next series event on June 17 at Wilmot (Wis.) Speedway.
