Sun Prairie, Wis., May 27---Brad Kuhn scored a thrilling one-car length capturing the 50-lap Badger Midget Series feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The victory was the second straight for the defending series champion who drove the Michael Quin Stealth/Mopar#43NZ.
Nick Lundgreen jumped into the lead on the opening lap.On the second lap Davey Ray hit the front stretch wall and flipped escaping injury. On the restart Lundgreen again assumed the lead. Three laps later Mike Hess moved into second while Kuhn made a great three-wide pass moving into third place.
Lundgreen's two second advantage was erased as he began lapping slower cars on the 14th lap. Lundgreen slowed with a flat tire giving Hess the lead two laps later. Hess and Kuhn easily pulled away from the field. When Tim Noble spun on the 26th lap, only seven cars remained on the lead lap.
Running the high groove Hess, Kuhn, Danny Stratton and Jerry Coons Jr. quickly distanced themselves front he remainder of the field. On the 33rd lap while leading Hess hit the front stretch wall and flipped escaping injury. On the restart Kuhn easily pulled away to a four car length advantage.
With seven laps remaining the leaders approached a pack of five lapped cars. Kuhn's advantage was erased and the trio tried passing the five cars, finally breaking free with a lap and half remaining. Stratton made one final attempt for the lead entering turn three on the final lap and wound up one-car length short, with Coons trailing in third by an additional car length. Doug Schenck and Aaron Fiscus completed the top five.
Badger will sanction three races in the upcoming week, on June 1 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds (Beaver Dam,Wis.) a co-sanction event with the USAC National Midget Car
Series. The final two events will be Badger only sanctioned on June 2 at Charter Raceway (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and June 3 at Angell Park Speedway.
