Clauson tops 'Prairie Cornfest field

By Bryan Gapinski Sun Prairie, Wis., August 18---Bryan Clauson captured Sunday Night's 30-lap Miller Lite Cornfest Midget Classic at Angell Park Speedway. The event was tri-sanctioned by the USAC Honda National Dirt Midget, POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget, and Stark Automotive Group-Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series.
Pole sitter Andrew Felker jumped into the lead at the start followed by Caleb Armstrong and Clauson. Zach Daum passed five cars in the first four laps moving into second behind Felker. Clauson moved by Daum and Felker before the lap was completed taking the top position.
Clauson increased his lead over the field, with Tracy Hines taking second place on Lap 10. Four laps later Clauson began lapping the tail of the field. Clauson maintained his three-car length advantage over Hines with ten laps remaining. Continuing lapped traffic allowed Hines to close within a car length of Clauson.
Third place running Rico Abreu stalled with three laps remaining bringing out the caution. On the restart Clauson held his lead over Hines, and scored his second Cornfest victory in three years driving the Tucker-BCI/Curb-Agajanian owned Spike/Ford-Esslinger No. 39. Trailing the pair were: Darren Hagen who started in 15th position, Jerry Coons Jr., and Daum.
"It's always great to win here this is one of my favorite midget tracks, we got to the right groove before everyone did, the car was perfect" commented Clauson who won his sixth career feature at the track.
