Ray Scores Angell Park Win
By Bryan Gapinski Sun Prairie, Wis., June 6, 2004--Defending series champion Davey Ray captured the 25-lap Badger Midget Series Feature, Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway.
Ray drove the Rajo-Wilke-PAK/Stealth/Sesco-Mopar to his first victory of the season.
Ray moved from his fourth place staring position to the lead on the opening lap. The event was slowed three times between the second and ninth laps for different cars coming to a stop on the race surface. On each restart Ray pulled away from the field. One lap after the final restart series point leader Scott Hatton passed Randy Koch for second place.
Ray held a 3.40 second lead over Hatton, and fast qualifier Jerry Coons at the midway point. Ray began lapping the tail of the field on the 16th lap and increased his lead. Ray lapped up to the ninth place finisher by the conclusion of the event. Ray finished 3.22 seconds ahead of Hatton, Coons, Koch, and Chad DeSelle. Hatton holds a 33 point lead over ray in series points heading into the June 13 event at the facility.
