Hatton Two For Three At 'Prairie
By Bryan Gapinski Sun Prairie,Wis., June 13, 2004--Scott Hatton extended his Badger Midget Series point lead, capturing the 25-lap feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The win was his 17th career at the facility. Boyd Calvert paced the initial six laps of the feature before retiring with a broke pump belt. Calvert's car stalled on the track bringing out the caution. On the restart Michael Kendall of Auckland, New Zealand led Australian Adam Clarke, Randy Koch, Davey Ray, and Hatton. Rookie Billy Wood Jr., flipped on the restart, escaping injury.
Kendall paced the next two laps before Brian Terry flipped on the backstretch also escaping injury. On the restart Brandon Waelti passed Kendall for the lead. Waelti's lead was short lived as one lap Hatton took the lead on the tenth circuit. Hatton set a blistering pace and at the midway point held a 2.84 second lead over Ray.
Hatton began lapping the tail of the field with ten laps remaining. Randy Koch stopped on the track for a flat tire setting up a six lap shootout between Hatton, and Ray. Hatton led Ray by three car lengths the remainder of the distance to score the win driving the Huston Solution Racing Stealth-Mopar. Rounding out the top ten were: Chad DeSelle, Don Droud, Clarke, Kevin Doty, Waelti, Kendall, Cody Wisensel, and John Jones.
The next series event will be on June 20 at Angell Park Speedway. The scheduled July 3 Badger/IRA Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the Davenport (Iowa) Speedway has been postponed.
