Rays Leads All The Way At 'Prairie
By Bryan Gapinski Sun Prairie, Wis., August 8, 2004--Defending series champion Davey Ray scored a wire to wire victory Sunday Night capturing the 25-lap Badger Midget Series feature at Angell Park Speedway.
Ray who started on the pole jumped into the lead at the start of the race, which was slowed twice in the first two laps by minor spun cars. Ray began
stretching his lead by the third lap. Fast qualifier Scott Hatton passed seven cars in the first three laps to move into third place. Hatton took over second on the sixth lap.
Cody Wisensel running third stopped on the track bringing out the caution on the eighth lap. On the restart Ray pulled away unchallenged from the field, and began lapping the tail of the field on the 15th lap, with Hatton running three seconds behind in second place.
With five laps remaining Dan Boorse stalled on the track. On the restart four lapped cars lined up between Ray, and Hatton. Ray driving the RaJo-Wilke-PAK/Stealth/Sesco-Mopar finished 3.14 seconds ahead of Hatton, Chad DeSelle, Kevin Doty, and Adam Clarke. Hatton increased his series point lead to 155 over Ray heading into the August 15 event at the facility.
