Hatton Last Lap Winner At Angell Park
Sun Prairie, Wis., July 3, 2005-Scott Hatton passed Brandon Waelti exiting turn four on the final lap to win the 25-lap Badger Midget Series feature at Angell Park Speedway. The win was Hatton's third this season in Badger competition.
Series point leader Davey Ray passed A.J. Fike for the lead on the second lap, moments later Fike suffered suspension failure, bringing out the caution. On the restart Ray quickly moved away from the field while Hatton was up to third place by the third lap after starting ninth. Lap by lap Hatton trimmed into Ray's lead, while the leaders entered lap traffic at the mid-way point. Waelti running the lower groove passed Hatton and closed on Ray, when the yellow was displayed for a stalled car.
On restart the trio pulled away from the field with Hatton taking the lead on the 17th lap. The event was slowed three times between laps 19-23 when Mike Hess, and Kevin Doty both running in the top five stopped on the track, and Jimmy Quinn flipped in a separate accident.
On the 23rd lap entering turn four Hatton jumped the cushion, at the same time second place Ray also jumped the cushion. Waelti led the race at the white flag. Waelti lost ground to Hatton who was running the cushion exiting turn four, with Hatton scoring the victory driving the Huston Solution Racing Stealth/Mopar. Electronic scoring showed the margin of victory to be 0.094 seconds. Ray, Danny Stratton, and Cody Wisensel completed the top five. Ray holds a 19 point lead over Waelti heading into the July 10 event at Angell Park Speedway.
