Fourth Win Moves Hatton Into Point Lead
Sun Prairie, Wis., July 24, 2005-Defending Badger Midget Series champion Scott Hatton finds himself atop the series point standings for the first time this season, after winning the 25-lap feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway.
Kevin Doty jumped into the lead at the start, with Hatton passing three cars on the opening lap. The next two laps Hatton advanced his position one car each and was in third place on lap three. Hatton began challenging Doty for the lead and passed Doty on the sixth lap, however the caution was displayed when third place running Cody Wisensel stopped on the track with engine problems, moving Doty back into the lead.
On the restart Doty, Hatton, and Brad Kuhn pulled away from the field, and ran three car lengths apart for the next seven laps. Hatton moved under Doty entering turn three on the 13th lap, and took the lead. A half lap later Kuhn passed Doty for second place.
Hatton began lapping the tail of the field on lap 15, and with lapped traffic stretched his lead over Kuhn to a two second advantage. The final two laps Hatton ran cautiously in heavy lapped traffic and finished 0.563 seconds ahead of Kuhn for his fourth victory of the season. Dash winner Brandon Waelti, Jerry Coons Jr., and Davey Ray completed the top five. Hatton now holds a 40 point lead over Waelti heading into the July 31 event at the Angell Park.
