Wilmot Badger Midget event falls to Stratton
Wilmot, Wis., Aug. 6, 2005- Danny Stratton scored his fifth Badger Midget Series feature victory of the season Saturday Night, winning the 30-lap event at Wilmot Speedway.
On the first start, New Zealand's Jimi Quin spun on the backstretch collecting two other cars including Ric Forbes who flipped escaping injury. Nick Lundgreen paced the first lap before series point leader Scott Hatton moved in front.
Stratton passed five cars in the first four laps to move into third place. With Hatton running the low groove, Brad Kuhn and Stratton ran the high side of the track as the trio pulled away from the field. Hatton and Kuhn were event at the finish line on lap eight, and two turns later Kuhn assumed the lead. Stratton moved into second on the tenth lap. The pair pulled away from the field as they weaved through the field lapping cars.
Stratton made a brilliant pass entering turn three to take the lead from Kuhn on the 16th lap. Bob Schreffler stalled on the track with nine laps remaining bunching up the field. On the restart Stratton and Kuhn again controlled the front of the race. Kuhn bobbled slightly with three laps remaining trailing Stratton by a car length, allowing Stratton who was driving the Hans Lein Spike/Esslinger #2 entry to finish 0.89 seconds ahead of Kuhn. Hatton, Mike Hess and Dan Boorse completed the top five. During qualifying Greg Lueckert broke Hatton's two month old track record with a lap of 15.518 seconds.
