Hatton Nears Badger Title With Victory
Sun Prairie, Wis., Aug. 14, 2005- Scott Hatton took a major step towards his second straight Badger Midget Auto Racing Association Championship, by capturing the 25-lap feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway.
Aaron Fiscus jumped into the lead at the start and paced the first two laps before Nick Lundgreen escaped injury in a minor flip in turn one. On the restart Hatton moved into second place with Jerry Coons, Jr. passing Hatton for second place one lap later. The caution flag appeared for stalled cars on laps five and ten, each time setting up passes for the lead on the restarts. Coons passed Fiscus for the lead on lap seven and paced the next four laps before Hatton took the took the top position on lap 11.
One lap later former series champion Kevin Doty flipped violently entering turn four. The series of flips ended with Doty's cars bouncing off the top of the wall and landing on the entrance road to the track outside the turn four wall. Doty was transported to University Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
On the restart Hatton pulled away from the field and spent the final five laps of the event in heavy lapped traffic. Hatton driving the Huston Solution Racing Stealth/Mopar#15 finished 1.43 seconds ahead of Coons, Brad Kuhn, Davey Ray and Aaron Fiscus. Hatton's sixth feature win of the season coupled with Danny Stratton's 20th place finish increases Hatton's series point lead to 208 points over Stratton with three races remaining.
