Win Clinches Badger Title for Hatton
Sun Prairie, Wis., Aug. 21, 2005- Scott Hatton clinched the 2005 Badger Midget Auto Racing Association season championship by winning the 50-lap feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The title is Hatton's third career, allowing him to join a group of five other drivers with three driving championships or more in the organizations 69-year history. Hattons becomes the first driver since Dan Boorse (1998-99) to win back-to-back series championships.
Chad DeSelle jumped into the lead at the start, while Hatton passed five cars in the first four laps to move into second place. A stalled car on lap seven bunched up the field. On the restart Hatton shadowed DeSelle passing him for the lead as the pair exited turn two on the lap 9.
Once in the lead Hatton stretched his lead, only to see cautions on laps 14 and 25 erase his two second-plus advantages. The final half of the race saw Hatton lapping the tail of the field, and maintaining his lead over DeSelle, as the two pulled away from the field. Hatton driving the Huston Solution Racing Stealth/Mopar#15 finished 1.577 seconds ahead of DeSelle for his seventh series feature victory of the season. Brandon Waelti, Nick Lundgreen and Rick Mueller completed the top five.
Two races remain on the Badger schedule both at Angell ParkSpeedway. Sunday Night Aug. 28 will be the 5th annual Hall of Fame Midget Classic, and on Sept. 4 the 24th annual Fireman's Nationals presented by Pepsi.
