Loyet wins 'Prairie Thriller
By Bryan Gapinski Sun Prairie, Wis., June 7, 2009---Rivals Brad Loyet and Brad Kuhn waged a torrid battle in the 25-lap Badger Midget Series Feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. Loyet emerged with the victory on the last lap, his first at the facility, becoming the 130th different midget feature win at the track.
Loyet paced the initial lap, before Kuhn moved into the lead, three cautions during the first eleven laps kept the field tightly bunched, with Kuhn and Loyet easily pulling away from the field after each restart. Kuhn continued his lead, with Loyet running a car length behind the two-time series champion. On a lap 18 restart Loyet passed Kuhn to lead one lap, before Kuhn regained the top position.
Loyet passed Kuhn for the on lap 23 exiting Turn 4. Kuhn drew even with Loyet as they received the white flag. The pair made contact exiting Turn 2, with their cars becoming hooked together. The cars remained locked together down the backstretch, losing speed as third place Scott Hatton closed the margin. Loyet's car on the inside of Kuhn's car dislodged itself before the pair entered Turn 3, and finished two-car lengths ahead of Kuhn for the victory.
Hatton placed third followed by Chad DeSelle and Bubba Altig. Loyet driving the Loyet Motorsports/Spike/Ford-Esslinger No.5 moved into second place in series points, 55 markers behind Hatton heading into the June 13 "Harry Turner Classic" at Wilmot (Wis.) Raceway before returning to Angell Park on June 14.
