Loyet scores fourth straight Badger Midget Victory
By Bryan Gapinski Sun Prairie,Wis., June 21, 2009---Brad Loyet scored his fourth straight Badger Midget Series victory, Sunday Night, capturing the 25-lap feature at Angell Park Speedway. It also marked the third straight runner-up finish for series points leader Scott Hatton.
Bubba Altig led Hatton at the start, while Loyet passed three cars on the opening lap moving into fifth position. Altig, Hatton and Jerry Coons Jr. opened up an advantage over the field, when the caution was displayed on lap 9, when fast qualifier Kody Swanson stalled exiting the track. During the caution Coons pitted for wheel repairs and rejoined the field in last place.
Loyet passed Hatton on a lap 10 restart for second place. Loyet pulled to Altig's rear bumper on lap 15, and drove under Altig to take the lead exiting Turn 4. Hatton took over second place, one lap later. The event was stopped on lap 20 when Chase Barber flipped several times entering Turn 1. Barber, alert and conscious, was transported to University Hospital-Madison for further observation
On the restart Loyet pulled to a three-car length advantage and held the distance over Hatton for the final five circuits. Brad Kuhn, Altig and Brandon Waelti completed the top five. Hatton holds a 30-point lead over Loyet in series standings heading into the June 28 event at Angell Park Park. In the event Loyet will try to become the first driver to win five straight Badger features in over 30-years.
