Badger Midget Auto Racing Association

Meet AFS Badger Midget Series Driver, Cody Weisensel

In the AFS Badger Series field today, you won’t find many drivers who have been racing midgets longer than Sun Prairie, Wisconsin’s Cody Weisensel. He's been at it since 2002.

With his dad, Kevin, by his side in the pits, the team looks to build on their 6th place finish in AFS Badger Midget Auto Racing Association, 2023 points.

Let’s spend a few minutes with Cody:

Car Number: 20
Owner: Kevin Weisensel
Team Name: Weisensel Racing

Sponsors:
Gallardo Roofing
DRP Apreal
Pitstop Pub

Crew: Charlie, Garrett, Jeremy.

BMARA: Were you a fan of racing before you got behind the wheel and if so, who were your heroes and what tracks did you attend?

CODY: Kevin "Money Man" Doty was my guy. I used to watch the team maintaining the car at the McGovern’s Hotel parking lot in Sun Prairie, when he came to town.

BMARA: Give us a synopsis of your racing career.

CODY: Chad Deselle helped get us into karting when I was 11 years old. I did that for 3 years.

Then Randy Sippel got us into a 1200 mini sprint at 14 years old. I did that for 2 years.

I got my start in midget racing with the help of Brandon Waelti, driving a second, legendary #3 car a handful of times.

The following year we bought a car from Jim Fiscus.

BMARA: How much time do you spend on the car each week during the season?

CODY: We have a weekly checklist for maintenance which is routine at this point.

BMARA: What is your day job and how does racing fit in?

CODY: I work at Prairie Hardwoods, a custom woodshop that makes custom moldings, trim work, custom wood projects, butcher blocks.

BMARA: What's something interesting the fans might not know about you?

CODY: I co-parent two chihuahuas.

I am a former OBHL men's hockey professional beer league champion, in Sun Prairie.
