Parker Jones Sweeps His Way to a New Standard in Badger Midgets at Beaver Dam Raceway

Parker Jones set the new standard for winning streaks with the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Auto Racing Association on Friday at Beaver Dam Raceway on Friday, July 25. His Lyco Manufacturing A-Main win was his seventh in a row and eighth of nine on the season, passing Badger Hall of Famer Landy Scott’s former mark of six straight wins. Jones would sweep the night.

PRELIMINARY EVENTS

Racing started with a tricky and slick track that got progressively better with each round of Rod End Supply Qualifying, where Jones scored the fastest time.

Cody Weisensel led the first few laps before Jones dove under him and sailed to an easy victory. Luke Wackerlin took third with Mike Stroik earning the last A-Main transfer spot in Auto Meter Heat-One.

Jordan Nelson took the early lead from P-2 in Dave Jones Heat-Two. Nick Kilian wasted no time from his fourth starting spot to jump into second by the end of the first circuit. When they got to turn-one Kilian assumed the lead and never looked back. It was the first heat win in Badger for Kilian.

Kyle Koch and Dave Collins Jr. lead the field to the green for Behling Racing Products Heat-Three. At the drop of the green Collins tried to hold off Miles Doherty but Doherty buzzed by him at the start/finish line. On the next lap at the line Brandon Waelti got past Doherty and won by about a half of a straightaway.

Hoosier Racing Tires Heat-Four saw hometown hero Matt Rechek lead the bulk of the race only to come to a halt as he exited turn-four, the second and third place cars of Zach Boden and Todd Kluever respectively, narrowly missed Rechek and each other. Rechek who did not restart. When racing started again Boden had the lead briefly but yielded to Kluever who went on to the win.

Stroik walked away from the start with the High Performance Lubricants B-Main. Eric Blumer was second and with his car repaired, Rechek took the third spot to transfer into the Lyco A-Main.

LYCO MANUFACTURING A-MAIN

Wackerlin paced the first laps of the 25 lap A-Main as a torrid battle highlighted by three-wide racing ensued behind him. An early yellow bunched the field and the restart had Wackerlin in the lead with Adam Taylor in second and Jones in third after starting ninth. For the next two laps the three ran nose to tail, except for some failed attempts at slide jobs by Jones. Meanwhile, Boden was running the bottom with some success in fourth.

On lap-six Jones finally stuck a slider coming out of four and got by Wackerlin for the lead. Lap-nine saw Taylor get by Wackerlin for the second spot.

As they approached the half-way mark Jones started to encounter lapped traffic. At this point Taylor was in second followed by Wackerlin, Boden, Weisensel and Doherty.

It didn’t seem like lapped traffic was a problem for Jones, despite some racing for position in the same groove he favored, but with five laps left seemingly out of nowhere, as if Jones had slowed on his own, Taylor was close enough to touch his bumper. Jones quickly gathered himself and was never challenged again as he swept the night and took the record breaking seventh Badger Midget Series win in a row.
