Taylor Tops Norm Nelson Classic

Sun Prairie, WI (June 11th, 2023) - Adam Taylor found himself in victory lane once again as he soared to victory in the Norm Nelson Classic. The win marked Taylor’s third win of the season and helped him gain ground on Todd Kluever at the top of the point standings.

Thirty-one cars filled the pits for the second night of racing for the AFS Badger Midget Series with previous nights winner Todd Kluever, Friday nights MARA winner Andy Baugh, and winners Adam Taylor, Brandon Waelti, and Jace Sparks all checked in.

The night’s first event was qualifying sponsored by FiveOne Motorsports. Fast time went to Adam Taylor with a time of 14.893 followed by Waelti, Kyle Stark, Mark McMahill, and Parker Jones.

Auto Meter Heat 1 was the first race on track and it was Aaron Schuck on top of the heat race with Derek Doerr second and Kyle Stark third. Simpson Race Products & VMS Rod Ends Heat 2 went to Daltyn England as Brandon Waelti and Ronnie Gardner followed him to the checkered. Behlings Heat Race 3 was won by Adam Taylor as Todd Kluever and Dave Collins JR rounded out the top three in the heat.

The High Performance Lubricants B-Main locked seven cars into the feature with RJ Corson starting from the pole and Tommy Colburn alongside him. Colburn walked away from the field as he won the B-Main. Corson, Jake Dohner, Jake Goeglein, Eric Blumer, Kyle Koch, and Mike Stroik all made the A-Main as well.

With the AFS 25 lap A-Main looming, the pressure was on as the night prior's winner Todd Kluever on the pole and Aaron Schuck sharing the front row. Kluever took advantage of the starting position and led early but Schuck stayed with him as the pair made their way around the tricky 1/3 mile for the first few circuits. Waelti began making his way through the pack and on lap six he made his way past Schuck for second. The #53 of Schuck, the #5X of Taylor, and #57 of Gardner had a short battle for the third place spot. Taylor came out on top before the only yellow of the race flew for the #10A of Tommy Colburn. Once the green came back out you could put a blanket over the top three of Kluever, Waelti, and Taylor. Kluever started to fall down the order as Waelti passed him on lap thirteen and Taylor slipped by a lap later. Waelti and Taylor would fight through the lapped traffic but a slider from Taylor sealed the deal for the #5X as he ran off into the sunset to pick up his third feature win of the season. Waelti came home second, Gardner third, Baugh fourth, and Kluever rounded out the top five.

A northern doubleheader awaits the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midgets next weekend with Friday the 16th at Gravity Park in Chilton, WI, and Saturday at the Plymouth Dirt Track.
