AFS Badger Midget Series Has A Doubleheader Weekend Culminating In Firemen's Nationals
The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Auto Racing Association and their sister organization Midget Auto Racing Association will kick the Labor Day weekend off with a co-sanctioned race this Saturday, August 30 at Sycamore Speedway. Badger will then run their own program the next night at Angell Park Speedway.
With a stellar forecast and several drivers expected to run both nights, coupled with some others running a third complete program with Sunday’s USAC Midget portion, there promises to be a lot of cars in the pits.
Including this weekend, MARA has five races left with the last event slated for October 11 at Coles County Speedway. Meanwhile, Badger has just three races on their schedule with Angell Park ending the season on a make up date of October 19 with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars.
Saturday’s go is the Alexander and Schuck Memorial at Sycamore. As soon as Parker Jones fires his #41 he will clinch his second AFS Badger Midget Series title in a row. Luke Wackerlin is chasing Derek Doerr for second and the rest of the top-ten is entirely in question as well and could come down to that last Badger show..
As for MARA, the points chase is too tight and there are too many races left. After leading for most of the year, Jace Sparks had a bad night at Lincoln Speedway last Friday and yielded the lead to Mark McMahill for the time being. Tyler Roth and Daltyn England are also within striking distance of a MARA title.
On Sunday it’s the 40th annual Firemen’s Nationals at Angell Park Speedway. Along with the thrilling action Badger brings to this prestigious event, there will be fireworks after the program and a band in the Angell Park Pavilion when the aerial display is over. The USAC National Midgets are also on the card.
Badger regulars Zach Boden, Cody Weisensel and Parker Jones will all do double duty on Sunday as they have secured UASC rides. It has been announced via social media that Zach Wigal will be in former Badger Champion Chase McDermand’s Badger car. The winner of the last MARA event Daltyn England plans on running both Saturday and Sunday with the MARA/Badger platform. There are rumors of some other surprises in the Badger line up on Sunday.
Saturday's race will stream live on BadgerTV and Sunday's event will be on FloRacing.
Here are the gate times (subject to change), please check each track’s pages for official announcements and pricing.
